Are you the person who is used to doing the work just before the deadline? Is it hard for you to stop delaying and putting off things? Well, overcoming procrastination is not an easy task to do. However, the following list of practical advice may be truly handy if you try using them.

The ways of overcoming procrastination

1. Do not try to do everything simultaneously.

Subconsciously, we escape work when we believe that it is too overwhelming. Thus, I suggest breaking your work into smaller parts. Let’s take the process of eating a cake as an example. You never eat it wholly at once unless you want to have a stomachache. The same concerns the work you are supposed to do. Maybe the example is not the best, yet I hope you got the gist.

2. Change things around.

Believe it or not, effects of procrastination are absolutely destructive. You have to make some changes until it is not too late. Start with your environment. If your workspace does not add to your productivity, you have to do everything possible to make it inspiring and motivating.

3. Surround yourself with people that influence you in a positive way.

Procrastination and depression often go together. Thus, hang out with people that give you inspiration. Spending time with them will help you to take action easily. Identify such go-getters among your colleagues, friends or family members and spend time with them more often.

4. Share your plans.

Tell your friends, acquaintances, colleagues and family members about your objectives. They will surely ask you what your results are. This way, you will always be motivated to make even small steps towards reaching your goals.

5. Just do it.

Do not wait for the ideal time to start. According to some studies, perfectionists tend to procrastinate. Since you tasks require accomplishments, do not be among those who always wait.

6. No excuses anymore.

If you want to be truly successful, stop telling excuses why you are procrastinating. Pull yourself together and take action. Stop using the phrases like “next Monday”, “from the 1st of October”, “tomorrow”, etc. Get off the sofa and start doing something.

Do not let the effects of procrastination have influence on you. Procrastination is sometimes unavoidable. However, do not make it a habit; otherwise, you will suffer from constant stress, lack of sleep and other health problems. Be successful following these tips.
